Ams OSram's new smart RGB LED will set a new benchmark for dynamic lighting in automotive interiors
AMS, a leading global provider of optical solutions, has announced OSIRE E3731i, a new solution that makes dynamic lighting easier for hundreds of RGB leds in automotive interior lighting systems. The newly launched OSIRE E3731i RGB LED has a built-in driver and control IC that enables efficient communication with the microcontroller via an SPI interface.
Ams OSram also offers an open communication protocol (OSP) for the OSIRE E3731i product. With OSP, the microcontroller can send instructions to each OSIRE E3731i and obtain status, enabling high-precision color calibration and temperature compensation. OSP can be used by any automotive, LED, lighting system or microcontroller manufacturer without a license and completely free of charge.
With OSIRE E3731i and the OSP protocol, car manufacturers are able to create unique dynamic lighting effects inside the car. Each control chain can be connected with up to 1,000 LED lights and can be controlled only by a microcontroller. Hermann Senninger, Senior Product Manager at AMS Osram, said: "Dynamic lighting, including pulse effects, breathing effects or fast color/brightness switching, can enhance the overall value of the car, whether for decorative upgrades or functional implementations. OSIRE E3731i with open communication protocol provides a simple and efficient dynamic interior lighting system implementation solution, that is, by reducing the number of components, simplify the system architecture, reduce cabling complexity, and ultimately achieve cost reduction and efficiency. These advantages have been favored by many customers. We believe this product will be widely used in production vehicles."
Each LED has a built-in IC with intelligent functions
The development of the new smart LED combines AMS OSRAM's expertise and extensive experience in optical technology, integrated circuit (IC) design and manufacturing. OSIRE E3731i is a high-performance RGB LED that is packaged together with an IC. The IC consists of three LED drivers, a set of OSP-enabled serial bus interfaces, a temperature sensor, and an on-chip memory.
During the production phase, we will calibrate the color brightness information of each OSIRE E3731i and store it in the LED in-chip memory. With this data, automotive manufacturers can more easily perform terminal calibration of interior lighting, ensuring that every OSIRE E3731i in the entire atmosphere lighting system of hundreds of lights shows extremely high optical consistency and uniformity.
