Analog Devices introduces high-performance processors
Analog Devices introduces a line of dual-core, 1GHz Blackfin processors. The ADSP-BF608 and ADSP-BF609 are optimized for embedded vision applications and both feature a high-performance video analysis accelerator called the Pipeline Vision Processor (PVP). PVP consists of a configurable set of processing modules designed to accelerate up to five parallel image algorithms for extremely high analysis performance. These processors are ideal for many applications, such as advanced automotive driver assistance systems (ADAS), industrial machine vision, and security/monitoring systems.
The ADSP-BF606 and ADSP-BF607 are PVP-free processors designed for flexible use in a variety of different general-purpose digital signal processing applications, such as wireless communications, industrial process control, and power grid monitoring/protection.
All four new processors feature two 500 MHz cores and the largest on-chip memory in the Blackfin family, and are optimized for low-power operation. Other features optimized for low power consumption include a new high-bandwidth data exchange structure, extensive peripherals and security features. Low power consumption brings many benefits, such as high temperature operation, smaller size, and lower system costs. The typical power consumption of the ADSP-BF609 is 400 mW.
Jeff Bier, founder of the Embedded Vision Alliance, said: "Embedded vision technology makes electronics smarter and more responsive. "Analog Devices has introduced a powerful architecture for embedded vision applications, and I applaud Analog Devices for their courage to lead the market."
Colin Duggan, Director of Marketing at Analog Devices, said: "The PVP accelerator can perform more than 25 billion mathematical operations per second, and its combination of two Blackfin cores lays the foundation for a powerful and flexible processor. "Our goal with these new Blackfin processors is to enable advanced analytics at an affordable price and with very low power consumption, making embedded vision systems more widely available."
