Bosch unveils a new pressure sensor that is robust and reliable and resistant to harsh environmental conditions

Barometric sensors are a key component in wearables and other applications for fitness tracking and can accurately determine altitude. At CES® in Las Vegas, Nevada, Bosch Sensortec demonstrated yet another breakthrough breakthrough with the launch of its new BMP585 air pressure sensor. The BMP585 is a robust and reliable barosensor for underwater and harsh environments, such as a wearable for swimming.

The BMP585 comes with a liquid repellent gel cover for wearable devices exposed to water or other liquids, covering saltwater and chlorinated pool water in swimming pools. It incorporates all the features of Bosch's existing BMP581 pressure sensors, providing the best in class accuracy and the superior robustness required to implement new use cases. Its power consumption is extremely low, helping to extend battery life for wearables, ear wearables and portable applications.

Carefree, always ready for adventure: The BMP585 provides reliable map data for hiking or running trips, including distance and altitude, which AIDS GPS data and ensures accurate positioning and navigation.

BMP585 is also resistant to water and chemicals, making it ideal for many industrial applications such as liquid level detection. Its sealing design can also prevent dust intrusion, so it is also suitable for the realization of plugging detection in household appliances such as vacuum cleaners.

The best performance of the same kind, ultra-low power consumption

The BMP585 is similar to Bosch's existing BMP581 and offers the best performance in its class. The relative accuracy is as high as +/- 0.06 hPa and the typical absolute accuracy is +/-0.5 hPa. The typical temperature coefficient offset (TCO) of BMP585 is only +/-0.5 Pa/K, and the RMS noise is as low as 0.08 Pa @ 1000 hPa (typical value). The long-term drift of 12 months is only +/-0.2 hPa.

At 1 Hz data transmission rate, the typical current consumption of the sensor is only 1.3 μA, which can significantly extend the battery life of the cell. BMP585 provides I2C, I3C, and SPI digital serial interfaces.

The BMP585 comes in a compact 9-pin LGA package with a metal lid and measures only 3.25mm x 3.25mm x 1.86mm ³, making it suitable for smartwatches and other wearables.
