Bourns introduces new vulcanization resistant fixed resistance products to provide optimal application solutions
Bourns introduces a new series of anti-vulcanization thin film precision chip resistors - Model CRT-AS, designed specifically for harsh environments exposed to high concentrations of sulfur pollution. Compared to standard thin film resistors, Bourns CRT-AS series devices have a significantly improved service life, making them the ideal solution for mission-critical applications. Including industrial, automation, power supply and communication base stations.
Because many applications must operate in environments with high sulfur content, such as where oil, lubricants or fossil fuels are present, as well as harsh, corrosive and polluted industrial areas, the design and materials used in typical thick film resistors, especially the silver in the internal terminals of silver palladium, make these resistors vulnerable to the intrusion of sulfur-containing gases. Common factors such as temperature, humidity, air flow, and sulfur-containing gases all contribute to the corrosion process and harmful silver sulfide stroke, which ultimately leads to resistance opening and failure.
Brian Ahearne, product line manager at Bourns, said that as more and more devices and systems are connected to each other, reliable data transmission, uncorrupted data transmission, and binary reception are more important than ever. Any I/O interface failures, such as those caused by corrosion, can cause catastrophic system failures, and the use of Bourns vulcanized film resistors can help resolve such corrosion-induced failures, not only improving system reliability and performance, but also reducing failure time.
Available in sizes from 0402(1005 metric) to 1206(3015 metric), the Bourns CRT-AS series is manufactured by printing thin-film components onto ceramic substrates and testing in accordance with ASTM B809-95, as well as an additional wide range of resistance, temperature coefficient and tolerance options.
