Dialog's Smart Bluetooth SoC is used in Xiaomi's innovative voice remote control

     Dialog Semiconductor, a provider of highly integrated power management, AC/DC power conversion, solid-state lighting (SSL) and Bluetooth Smart technologies, announced its SmartBond The DA14582 Bluetooth SoC (System-on-chip) is the core component of Xiaomi's new Mi Bluetooth voice remote control. The company unveiled the remote control (RCU) at its recent Mi TV 3 (60-inch smart TV) and OTT set-top box launch event. The voice remote can be used with the TV and set-top box, and supports voice search and other functions, including web browsing and motion-sensing games. It eliminates the need for traditional TV remote controls with complex controls and menus, greatly improving the user experience. The remote retails for 99 yuan.

     According to market analysis firm IHS, wireless remote control shipments will reach about 450 million by 2018. Enhanced user experience through intelligent features such as voice commands and motion recognition, and thanks to the widespread presence of Bluetooth in consumer IoT devices, Bluetooth wireless technology will eventually replace infrared remote controls. The DA14582's industry-leading power-saving technology extends the Xiaomi voice remote's battery life - 500 hours with typical gaming apps and 140 hours with voice apps.

     The Dialog SoC integrates a radio transceiver, a smart Bluetooth baseband processor running on the ARM® Cortex® M0 core, and an analog wideband audio codec. Its high level of functional integration minimizes the material cost of the Xiaomi remote control. The high-performance codec has a speech capture delay of no more than 50 ms, ensuring that voice commands are not truncated, and it can be speechencoded according to the IMA ADPCM standard, thus maintaining high audio quality even on low-bandwidth, low-power wireless links. The DA14582 also supports the motion sensing function of the 6-axis sensor used in the Xiaomi remote control.
