ON Semiconductor introduces a new family of image coprocessors for the next generation of automotive cameras

     ON Semiconductor introduces a new family of image coprocessors that enable high dynamic range (HDR)1080p automotive camera systems. The new AP020x family of coprocessors is designed to combine the company's high-performance 2 megapixel and 1.2 megapixel image sensors to provide a fully integrated automotive rear-view and panoramic reverse camera solution.

     Sandor Barna, vice president of ON Semiconductor's automotive Imaging and Scanning division, said: "With the introduction of these automotive coprocessors, ON Semiconductor expands its market position to provide a wider range of complete camera solutions for high-performance 1080p and 720p video to the world's leading automotive customers. In particular, we have added higher resolution, multiple interfaces and new vehicle features such as compliance with the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL)."

     The new image coprocessor integrates an advanced HDR color pipeline with Adaptive local tone mapping (ALTM). The AP0200, AP0201, and AP0202 support 1080p image sensors up to 2 megapixels, and the AP0102AT supports 720p image sensors up to 1.2 megapixels. All coprocessors provide functional safety features that meet Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) levels A and B. They support frame rates of 30 frames per second at 1080p, 45 frames per second at 960p and 60 frames per second at 720p. They also support Ethernet or parallel output interfaces, integrating I2C, SPI(serial peripheral interface), and General purpose input/Output (GPIO). Each device operates from -40 °C to +105 °C(ambient) and is fully compliant with the AEC-Q100 standard.

     The AP0200AT image coprocessor is optimized for rear-view cameras and provides Ethernet output. It also integrates a Space conversion engine (STE) that supports lens distortion correction and fisheye correction, and a precision overlay graphics engine. The AP0201AT image coprocessor also offers Ethernet output for Ethernet-based panoramic reverse photography. AP0202AT image coprocessor adopts 24-bit parallel output for digital panoramic reversing camera. AP0102AT image coprocessor for 1-megapixel 720p rear-view camera, includes STE and overlay graphics engine.

     The AP020x series will work in conjunction with existing image sensors such as the 1-megapixel AR0140AT, AR0132AT and AR0136AT, as well as the new 2-megapixel 1080p sensor AR0230AT. These sensor solution combinations and coprocessors provide first-tier automotive manufacturers with the broadest selection for multiple market segments while accelerating time to market.
