ON Semiconductor is the first in the world to combine 1080p resolution and backlit pixel technology
ON Semiconductor has introduced a new 1/2.7-inch, 2.3 megapixel (Mp) CMOS digital image sensor with a 1936H x 1188V effective pixel array. The AR0239 not only produces very clear and sharp digital images in challenging bright and low light, but also captures continuous video and single frame images, making it ideal for applications such as security and surveillance imaging systems, body-worn cameras, and in-vehicle DVR (car recorder).
The AR0239 features excellent low-light photographic performance, enhanced near-infrared (NIR) quantum efficiency (QE), and the ability to capture high-dynamic range scenes. The highly sensitive 3 micron (um)x3 μm backlight (BSI) image cable technology combined with improved NIR processes, including On Semiconductor's DR-PixT4 technology, improves sensitivity and QE by 21% and 10%, respectively, over the previous generation of devices.
The sensor features a variety of sophisticated camera functions such as binning and array frame selection, and its on-chip analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) support 10 - and 12-bit architectures. When running in linear mode using a serial interface, the device achieves fully HiSPi/MiPi compatible high definition (HD) with resolutions up to 1080p at 90fps, with excellent video performance. Double or triple exposure 1080pHDR output is possible when running at up to 30fps.
The optimized AR0239 is easy to use in design and offers multi-camera synchronization to simplify more complex setup. The iBGA package improves the performance, stability and reliability of the new image sensor at high temperatures and humidity. The operating temperature range of the device is -30C to +85C, in line with industrial application specifications.
