STMicroelectronics chip aimed at AMOLED display device applications
STMicroelectronics uses advanced technology to develop the latest micro power chip. STOD13AS uses ST's innovative Silicon on Insulator (SOI) process technology for better energy efficiency and longer battery life. Excellent resistance to mobile phone noise ensures that the display is flicker-free, making it ideal for smartphones or portable electronics equipped with AMOLED displays.
AMOLED displays have ultra-thin panels, and their picture quality and viewing Angle are better than existing LCD displays, according to the latest report from market research firm IHS iSuppli, as more and more smartphones and other thin and light electronic products begin to use AMOLED displays. AMOLED market revenues will climb from $600 million in 2008 to $3.6 billion in 2015, with each AMOLED display requiring a driver/power chip.
AMOLED's power requirements are more complex than LCDS and require both positive and negative voltages. By simplifying power circuit design, ST's AMOLED dedicated power chips bring added value to new product designs. The new STOD13AS uses ST's innovative Silicon On Insulator (SOI) process technology for better energy efficiency and longer battery life. In addition, the excellent anti-noise interference of mobile phone communication ensures that the display has no flicker and stable performance.
As a replacement for STOD03A, the STOD13AS single chip integrates a boost converter and DC/DC converter to provide positive and negative voltage to the display, demonstrating another benefit of silicon on insulator technology. Other advanced features include the display driver function, while the new short circuit protection mode and overload protection mode maximize chip stability and reliability. The new products also have energy saving features that help maximize battery life, such as the Enable pin that enables target applications to turn off the STOD13AS display completely when the display is not needed; pulse-skipping mode can improve energy efficiency and minimize the current consumption of the display.
STOD13AS uses advanced silicon on insulation process technology to achieve typical energy efficiency of up to 85%; Output current strength increased from 200mA to 250mA; Low output ripple, excellent anti-GSM noise; 1.5MHz operating frequency, can drive small external components; 2.5V-4.5V input voltage and +4.6V positive voltage, users can set negative output voltage.
