     STMicroelectronics has been named the global leader in sensors for automotive communication and telematics systems by market research firm IHS and is the fastest growing automotive sensor supplier in the world.Focusing on making cars safer, more environmentally friendly and more convenient, ST has been deeply engaged in the automotive market for more than 30 years and has become the world's top automotive integrated circuit (IC) manufacturer with product technology covering various automotive subsystems.

     Jeremie Bouchaud, principal senior analyst for MEMS and Sensors at IHS, said: "ST is benefiting from two major trends in the automotive MEMS sensor market. First of all, some first-line automobile brands began to outsource sensors, more and more sensor business is outsourced, including airbags, especially electronic stability control systems and other applications with strict safety requirements, in the main automotive market, benefiting from new industry regulations, the installation rate of automotive sensors is relatively improved.

     In addition, low-cost multi-axis sensors from consumer electronics manufacturers, such as monolithic three-axis gyroscopes and three-axis accelerometers, are simplifying the system assembly process for automotive companies, and the addition of measurement axes brings more functions. Inertial measurement units with integrated gyroscopes and accelerometers are basically equipped with a third measurement axis for free. The price is comparable to existing automotive sensors, but it has one more measuring axis than existing automotive sensors."
