STMicroelectronics will supply BorgWarner with 750V silicon carbide devices

     STMicroelectronics will supply BorgWarner with the latest third-generation 750V silicon carbide, which fits into its proprietary ViPER-based power module. The power module will be used in BorgWarner's traction inverter platform for a variety of current and future Volvo Cars electric vehicles.

     Stefan Demmerle, corporate vice president and president and general manager of PowerDrive Systems at BorgWarner, said: "BorgWarner is pleased to partner with ST to deliver inverters for the next generation BEV platform to our long-time customer Volvo Cars."

     To take full advantage of the performance of ST's SiC MOSFET chips, BorgWarner worked closely with ST's technical team to match its chips with BorgWarner's Viper power switches to maximize inverter performance and provide a compact and cost-effective architecture. The collaboration between the two companies provides the mass production capacity required by the rapidly growing electric vehicle market.

     ST's STPOWER SiC products are manufactured at its facilities in Italy and Singapore, and are advanced packaged and tested at its back-end facilities in Morocco and China. In October 2022, ST announced that it will expand related manufacturing capabilities with a new integrated SiC substrate manufacturing facility in Catania, which is home to the company's power semiconductor specialty IP and the base for SiC integrated research, development and manufacturing.
