The PLD portfolio helps engineers go from concept to prototype in minutes

     Based on its industry-leading logic portfolio, Texas Instruments introduced pld to enable engineers to simplify logic design for any application. With the ability to integrate up to 40 combined and sequential logic and simulation functions into a single device, its new PLD portfolio can help reduce board size by up to 94% and reduce system costs compared to discrete logic implementations. In addition, the new portfolio offers significant space savings compared to similar programmable logic devices on the market.

     With the company's easy-to-use InterConnect Studio tool, engineers can design, simulate and configure their devices for evaluation in minutes without writing any software. The tool speeds up the logical design process with drag-and-drop GUI and integrated simulation capabilities. Designers also benefit from point-and-click programs and direct ordering capabilities that simplify programming and purchasing, helping to speed time to market.

     Tsedeniya Abraham, vice president and general manager of Interfaces at Texas Instruments, said: "Engineers are increasingly considering programmable logic devices to reduce design complexity and board space, simplify supply chain management, and speed time to market. But existing programmable logic devices are more complex than many applications require, involve programming expertise, or have limited packaging options. Our new programmable logic portfolio builds on TI's 60 years of logic design experience. It features industry standard packages as small as 2.56mm2, low power consumption, AEC Q-100 certification, and a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C for applications such as automotive, industrial and personal electronics."

     The company's PLD portfolio includes the smallest lead seal in any market in the industry, measuring 2.1mm x 1.6mm with a 0.5mm pitch. This lead-containing seal is 92 percent smaller than competing devices, supporting manufacturers' need for weldability - a fraction of the size. Its automotive-grade pld is 63 percent smaller than its closest competitor. The portfolio also offers a QFN package option that allows automatic optical inspection, ensuring safety and long-term system reliability.

     With a static current of less than 1 μa and an active power of 50% less than similar devices on the market, these new PLDS have low power consumption and help extend the battery life of products such as electric vehicles, power tools, battery packs and game controllers. The company's new PLDS support universal input/output, lookup tables, digital triggers, pipeline delays, filters, and resistance-capacitance oscillators. The TPLD1201 and TPLD1202 devices also integrate analog capabilities, such as analog comparators, with internal selectable reference voltage options and hysteresis. The TPLD1202 provides additional components such as SPI, I2C, watchdog timer, and state machine.
