Toshiba launches application processor development platform for wearables and Internet of Things

     Toshiba Semiconductor & Memory Products Corporation announced the launch of a Hardware development Kit (HDK) and Software Development Kit (SDK) capable of monitoring activity levels, taking a pulse and checking heart rate, which together form the development platform for the TZ1000 series of application processors for wearable and iot devices. Toshiba will begin offering iot device development with the May 7 HDK and SDK, and, as of today, the trial event, will provide a limited number of reference boards and its development environment is free.

     The TZ1000 series devices integrate sensors, processors, flash memory, and a Bluetooth low energy controller in one package, and are designed to measure, process, store, and transmit the required wearable IoT device data in a single device solution.

     The development environment includes an embedded HDK with TZ1000-series processor TZ1001MBG, which runs on it with SDK software development tools, support and documentation. The kit will allow users to evaluate and develop software closer to the final product in the environment and optimize application processors for specific product characteristics compared to previous development environments. The development environment will help reduce design man-hour requirements and product development cycles.

     Toshiba is also working on the development of software algorithms to measure weak biological signals, such as pulse waves and the electrical activity of the heart, and environmental data, such as temperature and humidity, designed to deliver in the TZ1000 series, which will further strengthen the system solution lineup.
