Vishay introduces new 600V and 650V FRED Pt Gen 4 Ultrafast fast recovery diodes

     Vishay Intertechnology announced the launch of 28 new 600V and 650V FRED Pt Gen 4 Ultrafast fast recovery diodes for high frequency converters in power modules, motor drives, UPS, solar inverters and welder inverters. The "H" and "U" series of devices from Vishay Semiconductors, available in bare crystal form in wafers, have ultra-low forward voltage and reverse recovery charge to reduce losses and improve efficiency, while the extremely soft turn-off action of these devices minimizes overvoltage in all switching conditions.

     These devices can be paired with Vishay's new Trench insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) for use as reverse parallel diodes. When used together, Ultrafast diodes and IGBTs enable low EMI, reliably plug and play and can be used in single - and three-phase inverters, as well as full - and half-bridge DC/DC converters. The "H" and "U" series devices can also be used as standalone devices for power factor correction (PFC) circuits, boosters, choppers, and secondary side rectification.

     The 600V "U" series diodes are designed to reduce conduction losses in medium-speed circuits, and the 600V and 650V devices have extremely low forward voltages of 1.4V and 1.48V, respectively. The "H" series diodes are optimized for increased speed for high frequency applications, with reverse recovery times as low as 25ns and typical forward voltages of 1.65V and 1.74V for 600V and 650V devices.

     These Gen 4 diodes employ better technology in their effective area and boundary design, achieving forward currents of 12A to 250A using a smaller bare crystal size than previous generation devices, while the thinner thickness improves thermal resistance. To improve reliability, these diodes are passivated with polyimides and operate at temperatures up to +175 ° C.
