Ams Osram, together with Meritwork Technology and Enabot, launches intelligent robot EBO X, leading the new trend of family companionship
Ams Osram announced the successful launch of the AI intelligent companion robot EBO X with home robot supplier Enabot through a partnership with Meritwork Technology. The robot relies on the algorithm technology support of Legong Technology and is equipped with AMS OSRAM TMF8821 sensor to achieve automatic obstacle avoidance, anti-fall and auxiliary mapping functions.
With the increasing maturity of AI technology, accompanying robots have gradually entered the family scene and become an important part of bringing the parent-child relationship closer. As a family robot, effective obstacle avoidance is the premise of achieving safe mobility and intelligent care. However, there are many problems in family space, such as diverse layout and many dynamic obstacles. Therefore, in the process of use, robots often face challenges such as inaccurate perception and unclear path planning. To address these challenges, AMS Osram partnered with Guangzhou Meritong Technology to help Enabot launch EBO X, a family companion robot designed to improve its obstacle avoidance capabilities and increase its mobility.
The EBO X robot is powered by two AMS OSRAM TMF8821, a true direct time-of-flight sensor and processing system. It integrates a 940nm vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL), a highly sensitive single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) array, a precision time digiconverter (TDC), and a low-power microcontroller subsystem into a modular package measuring just 2.0mm x 4.6mm x 1.4mm - such a small volume, Ideal for space-sensitive applications.
TMF8821 Any multi-zone configuration (3×3; 4×4; 3×6) can support field of view Angle size adjustment, the maximum field of view Angle up to 63°, or the user can choose a custom receiving area according to the needs of their application, so that they can adjust the size of each receiving area. The sensor also has built-in anti-interference algorithm, which can eliminate and compensate the influence of dirt and stains on the glass or acrylic cover sheet; In terms of communication, TMF8821 reports distance values and confidence directly via I2C, without any external data processing, and has extremely low power consumption, with standby current of only 13µA. In addition, the device is embedded with advanced algorithms and wafer-level optical filters to provide superior optical performance even in complex lighting environments, such as strong sunlight.
In the design of the robot, the ultra-small size of the TMF8821 can ensure the beauty of the robot. And AMS OSRAM's dToF technology can make robots fearless of reflections such as carpets and glass with excellent anti-chromatic effect. Compared with the infrared tube solution, TMF8821 has a remote measurement function of 10~5000mm, which can perceive the height difference of steps and tables further, and remind the robot to brake in advance to achieve a good anti-fall effect. In addition, the high-precision ranging function and multi-area detection range can send the depth information to the main control while realizing autonomous obstacle avoidance, so that V-SLAM mapping can be achieved with the camera.
