The core of car networking is to achieve interconnection, and wireless connection technology is undoubtedly the most critical part. These connectivity technologies include wifi, NFC, Bluetooth, etc. Among them, through Bluetooth technology can achieve seamless and fast connection with various devices.

     Many semiconductor manufacturers have noticed that Bluetooth will play a crucial role in the process of connecting vehicles and external devices. Silicon Labs, a leading provider of wireless connectivity technology solutions for the Internet of Things, has launched the Bluetooth Smart BGM111 module for the connected vehicle market to help developers implement IoT low-power wireless connectivity designs.

     According to the IHS report, Bluetooth device shipments will exceed 3 billion units in 2015, and 96% of smartphones will be equipped with Bluetooth technology by 2018.      Silicon Labs' first Bluetooth module to the iot market, the BGM111, is highly integrated and flexible, simplifying Bluetooth Smart design (including RF design, Bluetooth Smart protocol and embedded programming complexity) and reducing time to market. The BGM111 is a Bluetooth solution based on Silicon Labs' Blue Gecko wireless SoC and enables the transition to a Blue Gecko SoC with minimal system redesign and fully compatible software, thus offering all the features of a Blue Gecko SoC: Equipped with 256kB flash memory and 32kB RAM, there is enough storage space for board-level applications. The hardware encryption accelerator built into the SoC provides a predictable guarantee for security requirements. It is convenient to connect various peripheral devices and sensors through flexible hardware interface. It is suitable for developers of all levels due to the internal integration of efficient antennas to ensure consistent operation with RF designs.

     The BGM111 has ultra-low power consumption and can be powered by a standard single 3V button battery or two AAA batteries. Thanks to the integrated MCU based on the ARM Cortex-M4 processor, the SoC consumes 59μA/MHz in run mode and 1.7μA/MHz in sleep mode, which can be as low as 200nA. The on-chip Bluetooth Smart transceiver consumes only 7.5mA of current at peak reception, and only 8.2mA at 0dBm in peak transmit mode. And the transceiver's transmission power can be configured to +8dBm, which is the most flexible transmission power in the industry, and its excellent signal range RF transmission distance can be up to 200 meters.

     BGM111 module helps IoT achieve the fastest wireless solution path, fully integrated module design, the best scripting language, software stack, etc., developers do not need to use an external MCU to achieve application logic and reduce the board area, so that Bluetooth Smart products developed at the lowest research and development cost can be quickly brought to market. It also saves money on tools and software.
