COSEL introduces ultra-compact, high-efficiency GAN-based power supplies
The TE series from COSEL is a new generation of highly compact power supplies for industrial applications. Using cutting-edge technologies such as wide bandgap Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductors, high-frequency planar transformers, and enhanced flyback topology, the TE series includes 45W (TECS/TEPS45F) and 65W (TECS/TEPS65F) power supplies with 1 x 2.3 (TEPS) and 1 x 3 (TECS) inch footprints, respectively.
The 12V and 24V output versions are capable of delivering 140% of their nominal power to sustain peak loads with an efficiency of up to 93.5%. Compatible footprints are available for two versions, either with pins (TEPS) or connectors (TECS), to facilitate system upgrades. Standard products are delivered with an exposed frame, but a dust protection case is available as an option.
Designed for adaptability, the TE series offers two interconnection variants: the TEPS with pins for PCB mounting and the TECS with JST connectors featuring a crimp design. In both instances, the 45W and 65W have interchangeable footprints. This feature is highly valued by system designers as it simplifies layouts and provides upgrade options. COSEL also considered the need to minimize the size of the power supply and adopted a vertical assembly technique that, when combined with a higher switching frequency of up to 800KHz, saves approximately 58% of board space compared to conventional technology, while maintaining a high level of power-conversion efficiency that is three percentage points higher than conventional products.
The TE series has an input voltage range of 85VAC to 264VAC (single phase) and is compliant with safety standards for an input voltage range of 100-240VAC (50/60Hz). The TECS/TEPS45F and TECS/TEPS65F are available with 5V, 12V, and 24V fixed output voltages and 45W and 65W maximum output currents, respectively. To accommodate the inrush current associated with DC motors, capacitor banks, and comparable applications, the 12V and 24V versions will offer a 140% peak current option (H) in 2024.
