Diodes introduces New dimmable LED drivers

     Diodes Corporation, a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality application-specific standard products and products for a wide range of discrete, logic and analog semiconductor markets, announced the introduction of the AL1696. The LED driver is designed to accommodate a wide range of TRIAC dimmable lighting applications, especially replacement products. An integrated MOSFET, which also eliminates an auxiliary winding, reduces material costs and the number of components, while the voltage/current options of three MOSFETs provide design flexibility to meet manufacturing requirements for residential lighting.

     The AL1696 is based on buck or buck - boost topology and achieves constant current conversion with high power factor operating in critical on-mode. This also reduces switching noise and simplifies EMI/EMC testing and certification. The design requires only a single winding inductor and a tight current detection tolerance of ± 3%. The device has a low operating current of 120μA, a starting current of 150μA, and is compatible with a wide range of front and rear edge dimmers, providing compliance with the NEMA SSL6 dimming curve.

     The selection of the 600V MOSFETs 3A at 300V, 2A at 500V and 2A allows the AL1696 to be matched to the final market line input voltage requirements and allows it to be used in LED lights up to 12W. The AL1696 is offered in a small form factor configuration with high voltage MOSFETs drain and low voltage pins to improve electrical isolation with an additional pin space, hence the -7 package. The device also features output short circuit, overtemperature, undervoltage latching overcurrent protection internal protection, front blanking and cycle by cycle.
