Infineon and Eaton expand their collaboration to bring AI-driven battery management solutions to industrial and consumer markets

     Infineon Technologies AG and Eaton are expanding their existing collaboration on battery management solutions (BMS) for automotive applications to develop a comprehensive BMS portfolio covering various industrial and consumer sectors. Using Infineon's PSoC™ microcontroller, the collaboration combines the benefits of AI-driven battery optimization software with cutting-edge power semiconductor components to provide advanced solutions that reduce battery degradation, enhance safety monitoring, and improve the overall performance and reliability of battery-powered systems.

     The technology combines Eaton's AI-driven BMS software, which utilizes pre-trained models with SOX, RUL and safety diagnostic capabilities, with components from Infineon such as MOSFETs for battery protection and the AI-based PSoC 6 battery management system designed for state-of-the-art machine learning applications. As a result, customers receive key benefits, including highly accurate state of charge (SOC) forecasts, reduced system costs, and faster time to market. This strategic partnership is designed to meet the growing demand for complex battery management solutions in industrial and consumer applications, including light-duty electric vehicles, portable electronics, robotics, energy storage systems and power tools.

     Due to the increasing demand for efficient energy utilization, extended battery life, and predictive maintenance, the battery management and optimization market is expanding rapidly. Artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in improving battery performance, making Eatons-Infineon technology a leading solution for applications such as robotics, wearables, portable medical devices, smart appliances, battery-powered iot products and low-power energy storage systems.

     Etron's software has been pre-validated and deployed on Infineon's PSoC and benchmarked against traditional methods that require extensive battery characterization. The evaluation used LG Chem INR21700 M50 commercial batteries to evaluate systems of up to 24 cells over a wide temperature range (0-45°C), demonstrating comparable results that reinforce the strong value proposition of Eaton Infineon technology.

     Artificial intelligence remains one of Infineon's key growth drivers, and the company has consolidated its leadership position through innovations such as silicon (Si) ultra-thin wafers, 300mm gallium nitride (GaN) technology and the industry's most competitive 200mm silicon carbide manufacturing process.
