Intersil introduces 14-channel programmable Gamma buffer for in-car infotainment and ADAS displays

     Intersil, a leading provider of innovative power management and precision analog solutions, announced the ISL76534, the industry's lowest-power 14-channel programmable gamma buffer for automotive TFT-LCD displays. The auto-grade ISL76534 provides gamma correction with the highest accuracy, ensuring consistent brightness and color matching for every on-board LCD panel. The ISL76534 is ideal for next-generation LCDS designed for in-vehicle infotainment displays, Advanced Driver Assistance systems (ADAS) smart Mirrors and combined instrument displays.

     The powerful ISL76534 provides engineers with one Vcom and 14 gamma channels with 10-bit resolution to enable fine-tuning of the gamma curve, avoiding the phenomenon of LCD panels being too white or too dark due to incorrect gamma correction. Engineers use the ISL76534 to calibrate and store the gamma curve, ensuring that each LCD is turned on and displays a pleasing image. The ISL76534's internal EEPROM stores factory corrected gamma and Vcom reference values and achieves significantly higher reliability and performance than competing devices by providing 10,000 write cycles and 20 years of data retention (105°C)

     The ISL76534 circuit architecture makes it easier to use than competing solutions. No power timing control required - either analog or digital power can be started first. At initialization, all gamma buffers and Vcom output channels start monotonically at the same time in a controlled manner to prevent LCD panel locking. This adds another layer of reliability to ADAS and car safety systems, such as reverse cameras that rely on LCD panels to start up quickly and operate perfectly. In addition, the ISL76534's 75 dB high power rejection ratio (PSRR) prevents power noise from reaching the gamma buffer output and can be displayed in the LCD panel.

     The ISL76534 also offers the industry's lowest power consumption of 56.6mW, which is only one-fifth of the nearest competitor. Its low maximum output current for analog, digital, and Vcom power supplies simplifies power supply and thermal design. The device's low power dissipation also eliminates the need for heat sinks, prevents junction temperatures from getting too high, and allows engineers to use lower-cost Ldos instead of switching regulators.
