KEMET broadens automotive applications that can take advantage of polymer electrolytes

     KEMET has announced the expansion of its T598 polymer electrolytic capacitor product line with new devices with higher voltage ratings. The addition of 35V devices with capacitance values of 22 and 33μF marks the first time Kimi Electronics has brought such products to market. The new AEC-Q200 compliant device expands the range of automotive applications that can take advantage of the benefits of polymer electrolysers and provides products that meet critical requirements for voltage transients.

     Like other devices in the T598 series, the new high-voltage polymer electrolytic capacitors from Kimi Electronics are inherently volume-efficient, providing a space-saving solution that facilitates the miniaturization of automotive power circuits. The key performance advantage of the T598 device is the ultra-low equivalent series resistance (ESR), which minimizes energy loss and capacitor self-heating, allowing the device to handle large ripple currents without creating excessive thermal stress. In addition, the ESR of polymer capacitors has a low temperature coefficient, helping to ensure stable performance over its operating temperature range of -55 to +125 ° C.

     In addition, the roll-down frequency of the capacitor is also increased, allowing the device to hold the capacitor at a higher frequency than the MnO2 device. Compared to liquid electrolyte devices, polymer electrolyte devices from Kimi Electronics have a long service life and are ideal for harsh environmental conditions, such as the typical automotive application conditions of high temperature and humidity.
