Littelfuse introduces the first D-PAK packaged SCR thyristor at 150°C junction temperature

     Littelfuse announced the introduction of the first of its kind high temperature SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier) thyristor with junction temperatures up TO 150°C in a compact surface mount D-PAK (TO-252) package. The product is also available in a through-hole V-PAK (T0-251) package. Standard SJ series SCR thyristors have gate current trigger levels as low as 6mA (up to 15 mA) at voltages of about 1.5 V. The sensitive products in this series have gate trigger currents below 200μA. Sensitive gate thyristor rectifiers are easily triggered by induction coils, proximity switches and microprocessors.

     Applications for the SJ Series SCR thyristors include capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) systems for motorcycle engines, portable generator engine ignitions, flash lights and spike guns, and excitation insurge current limiting circuits for general-purpose rectifiers, battery voltage regulators, converters and AC converters. It is also suitable for controlling power tools, brown appliances (such as consumer electronics such as televisions, radios, digital media players and computers) and white goods.

     "Although the SJ series is in compact D-PAK and V-PAK packages, its junction temperature of up TO 150°C enables performance comparable TO SCR thyristors in larger packages such as TO-220AB and TO-263 because of its wider operating range." Koichiro Yoshimoto, business Development Manager, Littelfuse Semiconductor Business Unit, said, "Designers can use this series of products with high junction temperature and excellent surge processing capabilities TO replace existing SCR thyristors in larger TO-220AB and TO-263 packages, and allow others TO design smaller products. '
