Melexis introduced stacked twin-chip variants of the MLX90425 and MLX90426
Melexis has introduced stacked twin-chip variants of the MLX90425 and MLX90426, expanding its innovative family of three-axis magnetic sensing ics. With 5mT SFI and 360° rotating magnet detection, these ics support safety requirements for steering wheel and accelerator pedal position sensing, enabling a higher level of autonomous driving.
As automotive automation increases, there is an increasing demand for electrification and "drive-by-wire" systems that are able to replace traditional mechanically connected systems. The drive-by-wire design requires reliable sensing with built-in redundancy, especially for steering, throttle and braking purposes. This redundancy is essential to ensure the functional safety and availability of these critical systems. In addition, for the expanding electric vehicle market, anti-interference stray field effects are key to ensuring accurate measurement.
To support increased autonomy, safety and electrification, the company has added two models to its already successful 360° rotating stray field rugged MLX90425 and MLX90426. These features include a novel dual-chip design that integrates two ics in a single TSSOP-16 (SMD) or SMP-4 (PCB-free) package. These innovations are ASIL C, which enables ISO 26262 ASIL D system-level integration, ensuring that the automotive industry's growing safety needs are met head-on. These devices provide a better degree of integration than discrete two-way solutions. Both ics provide high-precision operation and feature 5mT of stray field immunity, offering superior reliability and tailor-made specifications designed to create a cost-effective end solution.
At the heart of these ics is the company's magnetic technology, which enables very reliable measurement of magnetic flux in individual ics. With programmable linear transmission characteristics of up to 17 points and wide operating temperatures of -40 ° C to 160 ° C, these products are ideal for automotive applications. Devices differ in their output protocols. The MLX90425 has an analog ratio or PWM output, while the MLX90426 is equipped with a digital SENT output.
