Microsemi Corporation introduces new additions to the SparX-IV Ethernet switching chip family

     Microsemi Corporation, a leading provider of differentiated semiconductor technology solutions in terms of power, security, reliability and performance, announced that it will release the VSC7449, a new member of the SparX-IV Enterprise Ethernet switching chip family with significantly increased switching capacity and competitive port configurations. The new SparX-IV Enterprise Ethernet switching chip is suitable for managed small and medium-sized enterprises (smes) and enterprise switching platforms, including Wi-Fi access and aggregation, as well as Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

     Uday Mudoi, Group Vice President of Ethernet Networking Technology (ENT) at Microsemi Corporation, said: "The VSC7449 device supports 48 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports and four 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) ports switching on a single chip, can connect directly to 10G fiber, and combines with Microsemi Corporation's high-density 12-port 1000 Base-T PHY. Provide cost-optimized fully managed L2/3 switching solutions. In addition, the VSC7449 integrates SyncE and 1588v2 support necessary for the emerging industrial Ethernet market."

     According to a 2015 report by market research firm Infonetics, the enterprise Ethernet switch market continues to grow in terms of the number of ports supported, especially in terms of 2.5GbE and 10GbE. Ports with a rate of 2.5GbE are expected to grow from about 412,000 in 2015 to 9.5 million in 2019, and ports with a rate of 10GbE are expected to grow from about 44 million in 2015 to more than 171 million in 2019.

     The VSC7449 has the best port configuration, offering up to four 10Gbps Ethernet port connections without an external PHY, and up to 24 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports, enabling upgrades to 802.11ac networks over existing cable infrastructure. The SparX-IV Ethernet switch chip supports industrial temperature ranges while integrating IEEE 1588 timing and synchronization, making it ideal for industrial Ethernet switch applications. The SparX-IV switching chip family is complemented by SMBStaX™ and IStaX turnkey applications and Microsemi Corporation's Power over Ethernet (PoE) powered device (PSE) integrated circuit (IC) and clock management portfolio. It provides a fast path to market for enterprises and industrial equipment manufacturers.
