ON Semiconductor introduces a new family of switching step-down regulators such as NCV890100

ON Semiconductor introduces a new line of switching step-down regulators for space-constrained, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) -sensitive automotive entertainment and infotainment system applications. These highly integrated devices provide industry-leading conversion ratios for switching power supplies connected to batteries.
NCV890100, NCV890101, NCV890130, NCV890131, NCV890200, NCV890201, and NCV890231 all operate at 2 megahertz (MHz) in conjunction with an internal power switch. This 2 MHz switching frequency allows designers to use smaller, less costly inductors and capacitors in input and output filters. The switching frequencies of the NCV890101, NCV890131, NCV890201, and NCP890231 devices can also be synchronized to an external clock source.
Jim Alvernaz, Director of Automotive Products at ON Semiconductor, said: "These switching regulators are highly optimized for contemporary automotive information and entertainment applications. The combination of the high switching frequency and the built-in N-channel power switch enables designers to design extremely compact automotive power systems."
While some competing devices are capable of converting 16 volts (V) to as low as 3.3V, On Semiconductor's new family of devices is capable of converting 18 V input voltage to an output voltage as low as 3.3V and can convert 16 V input to an output as low as 2.5V while maintaining a 2 MHz switching frequency. These devices are capable of operating at voltages ranging from 4.5 V to up to 36 V and can withstand load drops of up to 40 V (up to 45 V in the NCV890x3x version), making them ideal for use in stringent automotive start-stop and cold-start conditions.
NCV890100, NCV890101, NCV890130, and NCV890131 provide peak output currents of 1.2 amps (A), while NCV890200, NCV890201, and NCV890231 provide peak output currents of 2 A.
