Power Integrations joins forces with Casambi Technologies to launch dimming and color smart lighting reference design

     Casambi Technologies OY, the world leader in high efficiency and high reliability LED driver ics, has today jointly released a new reference design (DER-612). This is a constant voltage (CV), constant current (CC) 12 W isolated flyback power supply with power factor correction for smart lighting applications. The 3.3V power supply in the design powers the Casambi CBM-001 Bluetooth® wireless module, which provides convenient dimming and color management control for four-string LED loads ranging from 0 mA to 400 mA. The power supply supports a wide input voltage range of 90 VAC to 265 VAC and achieves a power factor above 0.8 at all input voltages.

     The design is based on Power Integrations' InnoSwitch-CH power controller, which integrates primary, secondary and feedback circuits simultaneously into a surface-mount off-line flyback switch IC. The IC not only integrates the Power FETs on the primary side, the primary side controller and the secondary side synchronous rectifier controller, but also integrates the magnetic coupling technology of Power Integrations, FluxLink.

     This technique allows the device to safely straddle both ends of the safety isolation band, thus eliminating the need for an optocoupler. Secondary side control enables high precision constant voltage adjustment and ultra-fast step load response, while simple PWM control eliminates secondary DC/DC regulators. The IC features high efficiency and extremely low standby power consumption, eliminating the need for additional heat sinks and enabling customers to design solutions that meet the requirements of the DOE-6 energy efficiency standard. The built-in secondary auxiliary power output is used to support RF and MCU control circuits.

     CBM-001 is a Class 2 embedded Bluetooth 4.0 module designed for LED lighting control applications, lamps and LED bulbs. It is built with Casambi's proprietary firmware and is fully compatible with other Casambi devices. Through the Bluetooth 4.0 protocol, CBM-001 can be controlled wirelessly by the Casambi app for smartphones and tablets. These devices automatically form a self-healing and self-organizing wireless mesh network, so a large number of lights can be controlled from any point. Furthermore, no additional gateway module is required.
