STMicroelectronics Advanced sensors help OnePlus 2 phones take better photos

     STMicroelectronics, a leading global semiconductor supplier across multiple electronic applications, announced that OnePlus Technology, a well-known Chinese handset manufacturer, has integrated ST's advanced motion sensors and proximity detection sensors in the OnePlus 2 handset.

     As OnePlus' flagship model of 2015, the OnePlus 2 phone relies on ST sensors to enhance its excellent camera system performance, including an extremely fast 0.2 second "eye level" laser focus time and optical stabilization technology, which improves stabilization accuracy by 20% and reduces power consumption by 55% compared to standard optical stabilization mobile camera systems.

     St's L2G2IS gyroscope drives the OnePlus 2's Optical Image Stabilization System (OIS), which improves the sharpness of photos taken in low light conditions and eliminates camera shake. This two-axis MEMS gyroscope guarantees a unique sensing unit that provides angular rate measurements to the camera through a digital interface.

     By ensuring that the distance between the smartphone and the object being photographed is calculated accurately and reliably, the ST VL6180 proximity sensor improves the autofocus performance of the OnePlus 2 phone. The VL6180 comes in a simple and compact package, with ST's FlightSense™ optical sensor innovation to reduce autofocus time and improve picture quality, especially in macro mode and low ambient light.

     To enable the OnePlus phone to take 360-degree photos and enhance gesture control and mobile gaming for OnePlus phone users, ST is providing the Sensor System Package (LSM330), which integrates a 3D digital accelerometer with two programmable embedded state machines and a 3D digital gyroscope. This dual sensor module has optional accelerometer ranges up to ±16g at full scale; Angular rate full scale up to ±2000 dps.
