STMicroelectronics, DSP Group and Sensory jointly develop voice control equipment keyword smart microphone

The microphone is compact and has keyword recognition.

    The device integrates ST's low-power MEMS microphone, DSP Group's ultra-low-power voice processing chip and Sensory's voice recognition firmware in a micro-system package (SiP), leveraging ST's advanced packaging technology to achieve a very lightweight package, extremely long battery life and advanced features.

     Typical Sound Wake up microphones can wake up the device and exit sleep mode without the user touching it. However, due to limited processing performance, the main system processor needs to be woken up to recognize the received instructions. With the powerful computing power of the DSP Group voice processor, ST microphones can detect and recognize commands without waking up the main system, achieving efficient and intuitive seamless human-computer interaction, which is suitable for scenarios where users issue voice commands to voice-activated appliances such as smart speakers, TV remote controls, and smart home systems.

     Using DSP Group's HDClear ultra-low power audio processing chip, the new microphone solution extends the life of battery-powered devices for many years without needing to recharge or replace the battery. The system executes commands immediately without the need to identify commands in advance, so voice commands respond faster.

     Andrea Onetti, General Manager of MEMS Devices and Sensors Products at STMicroelectronics, said: "Unlike existing solutions, the new microphone not only listens to sound, but also understands voice commands immediately, eliminating the need for main processor resources and computing resources.
