STMicroelectronics Introduces High Efficiency micro monolithic buck converter

     The DCP3601 from ST is a compact monolithic buck converter that integrates a wide range of functions and offers superior flexibility for streamlined, low bom design and high conversion efficiency. By integrating the built-in power switch and compensation, it requires only six external components - inductors, self-bootstrap, filter capacitors, and feedback resistors to set the output voltage - simplifying the implementation of the circuit.

     With an input voltage range of 3.3V to 36V and an output capability of 1A, the DCP3601 provides an efficient power supply for low-voltage loads in applications such as smart meters, home appliances, and industrial 24V conversion systems. Synchronous rectification and a fixed 1MHz switching frequency ensure consistent high efficiency across the entire load spectrum, reaching 91% at 600mA, 12V inputs and 5V outputs.

     Designed for versatility, the DCP3601 offers a variety of variants that allow designers to choose between forced pwm operation for noise-sensitive applications or pulse jumps for light loads to reduce power consumption. Both low-noise and low-power versions feature frequency jitter to minimize noise power at the 1MHz switching frequency. In addition, all models feature an ultra-low static current of only 110 μA and Enable pins for power down control via external signals to maximize energy savings.

     To speed up development, ST offers the STEVAL-3601CV1 evaluation board, which features instant-use screw terminals and heads, demonstrating an efficient circuit design in a compact layout. As the first member of ST's new buck converter product family, the DCP3601 is supported by the company's 10-year life plan, ensuring long-term component availability and support. The single-chip buck converter is available in a space-saving 3mm x 1.6mm SOT23 6-lead package, with prices starting at $0.48 for 1,000 unit orders.
