STMicroelectronics' STM32 motor control Nucleo development kit directly starts brushless DC motors in seconds
STMicroelectronics has introduced a Motor Control starter Kit plus a new free software algorithm to help motor control engineers and enthusiasts achieve highly efficient motor vector control solutions in a very short time, such as drones, home appliances, electric bicycles (e-bikes), home automation, medical instruments and industrial machines.
With new software for the STM32 motor control ecosystem, the P-NUCLEO-IHM001 Motor Control Suite enables users to... Plug and play. (plug and spin) synchronous motor without any special or additional development tools. The new kit comes in a portable blister pack containing the STM32 F3 Nucleo microcontroller board, a plug-in 48V/1.4A motor driver board based on the STSPIN L6230 motor driver chip, and a low-voltage brushless motor.
After connecting the circuit board to the motor, the user can run the motor using the microcontroller's pre-installed ladder (6-step) or sine (FOC[1]) vector control algorithm example. While the motor is running, users can compare and understand the motor control algorithms, and then, using the MC WORKBENCH configurator and code generator, modify the controller Settings to their own needs (in FOC mode).
The free PC-based MC WORKBENCH software simplifies the customization of the motor control firmware library (STSW-STM32100) and enables users to set up different motors or other driver boards in the ST motor control ecosystem. The latest version of the Algorithm Library (v4.2) introduces a convenient “ Motor Profiler” Tools that can automatically detect motor parameters, automatically configure the motor control algorithm library, without any additional equipment, One-Touch Tuning can simplify the load and inertia adjustment process in a wide speed range.
As the core of the Nucleo motor control development tool suite, the STM32F302 microcontroller features excellent algorithmic performance, DSP extended instruction set for excellent feedback loop control, and practical peripheral interfaces, including dedicated motor control timers, operational amplifiers, and voltage comparators. Examples of pre-integrated algorithms for microcontrollers are the standard firmware from the ST Motor Control Firmware Library and the STM32Cube tool, which can modify the firmware according to customer requirements. Like the entire motor control firmware library, the free, open source code is available for most STM32 microcontrollers and various hardware boards.
