STMicroelectronics announces High-performance Microcontroller (MCU)

     STMicroelectronics, the world's leading semiconductor company serving multiple electronic applications, has announced the STM32H5 series of high-performance microcontrollers (MCU). The new series of products introduce STM32Trust TEE Security Manager security technology to bring advanced security functions to intelligent Internet of Things devices. Typical applications include air conditioning, appliances, appliances such as alarms, industrial programmable logic controllers (PLCS), motor controls, industrial pumps, communication gateways, lighting controls, and power conversion. Target applications also include consumer electronics, such as PC peripherals, smartphones and accessories.

     The new STM32H5 MCU family features Arm®'s Cortex®-M33 embedded kernel. The Cortex®-M33 combines high performance, security, energy efficiency and economy to make it the microcontroller of choice for mid-range applications in the MCU. The STM32H5 is currently the world's top performance Cortex-M33 microcontroller, operating frequency of 250MHz, processing speed of 375 DMIPS, EEMBC CoreMark® industry benchmark achieved 1023 points.

     The design intention of STM32H5 series is to accelerate the innovation and transformation of the next generation of intelligent Internet of Things devices, so that "edge" devices have more intelligence, and strengthen the attack and defense capability of Internet of Things devices. The Cortex-M33 kernel brings Arm's TrustZone® security architecture to the new family of products, complemented by a variety of proprietary security features from stmicroelectronics, including some developed in collaboration with licensed partner ProvenRun.

     The STM32H5 is the first MCU family on the market where customers can access System-on-a-chip (SoC) security services through industry standard apis. The tool, called STM32Trust TEE Secure Manager, eliminates the need for developers to write their own security code, while providing security services based on existing best practices. This tool simplifies application development while ensuring effective protection.

     Increased computing performance is associated with increased power dissipation, but the STM32H5 MCU is a refresh of the past understanding of developers, using stmicroelectronics advanced 40nm CMOS process and improved on-chip power conversion circuit to improve energy efficiency. With these MCUS, dissipative power is no longer a design limiting factor when using devices with operating frequencies up to 250MHz in harsh environments with ambient temperatures up to 125°C. In addition, the STM32H5 MCU meets the Security Integrity Level (SIL) standard and is suitable for devices with rigid SIL requirements. The chip native hardware features for a variety of industrial and medical applications.
