STMicroelectronics announces new development ecosystem with addition of STM32L4 series low power microcontrollers

     STMicroelectronics announced the development ecosystem to support its latest STM32L4 low-power high-performance microcontroller (MCU) and announced five new product lines to give customers more options for package types and storage capacity. The STM32L4 extended ecosystem is based on ST's free, easy-to-use STM32Cube software development platform and includes the STM32CubeMX initialization code generator and configurator and the STM32CubeL4 package. The STM32CubeMX has easy-to-use power estimation capabilities designed for ultra-low power consumption, while the STM32CubeL4 package includes middleware, Nucleo-32 board Support Package (BSP), hardware abstraction layer (HAL), and underlying application programming Interface (LLAPI).

     In order to enable users to quickly start new projects, the slim NUCLEO-L432KC development board is the first Nucleo-32 development board to integrate a QFN32 micropackage microcontroller with a STM32L432KCU6 microcontroller (UFQFPN32) on board. Allows users to directly use the ARM® mbed™ online development tools, the on-board Arduino Nano pin layout simplifies function expansion, and the integrated ST-Link debugger/programmer supports large-capacity memory and prop-free debugging.

     The STM32L43x and STM32L44x's five new product lines include a flexible combination of on-chip peripherals for different purposes such as USB controllers, LCD controllers and encryption hardware. Up to 256KB of flash memory and a low-pin package make it particularly suitable for cost-sensitive applications. The new product also offers a wealth of digital peripherals, including a true random number generator (TRNG) and intelligent analog capabilities, such as a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter with 5 million samples per second, an internal voltage reference circuit, and an ultra-low power voltage comparator.

     All products benefit from ST's innovative low-power technologies, with FlexPowerControl(FPC) being a separate power supply voltage domain for analog peripherals, USB circuits and I/O port gated power supplies. The Data Processing Mode (BAM) enables energy efficient data acquisition, and seven low power modes are followed by deep Low power mouse mode to maximize energy savings under various operating conditions.

     According to the EEMBC ULPBench test, ST's low-power technology, combined with the performance of the 32-bit ARM Cortex®-M4F core, is an important guarantee for the high energy efficiency of the new product. The STM32L433 achieved 177 ULPMark-CP[1] on a 3.0V power supply without the help of a step-down power converter. Open ST's ART Accelerator to accelerate innovation technology, and the final test score is as high as 273 CoreMark.
