STMicroelectronics has partnered with DSP Concepts to provide STM32 users with a free advanced audio design tool
Spanning multiple electronic applications, STMicroelectronics, the world's leading semiconductor supplier, has introduced the STM32 microcontroller design tool with a simple and user-friendly graphical interface, enabling small electronic products such as wearables and iot hardware to now provide consumers with high-end audio features, such as advanced aural user interfaces.
STMicroelectronics has partnered with DSP Concepts, the developer of the AudioWeaver design tool, to introduce a free version of ST-AudioWeaver for STM32 ARM Cortex-M 32-bit microcontroller users. Audio Weaver lets product designers develop complex digital audio applications without having to write code. Developers simply select and connect the desired module from the audio module library on the graphical user interface, and then do on-site fine-tuning on the target hardware. Design tools also include examples that speed up how quickly users learn to use new tools and help start new projects quickly.

ST-Audio Weaver includes a library of 160 free digital audio processing algorithms, including multi-purpose filtering modules, array processing modules, and noise suppression modules to make speech recognition systems more efficient and powerful. The design kit also includes the free Audio Weaver Designer PC graphical user interface, where developers can configure fine-tuning modules, and the option to complete the fine-tuning process on prototype hardware to create a custom audio processing engine to run directly on production-grade embedded systems. Without the need for in-depth customization. Users can also extend and upgrade ST-Audio Weaver for free with DSP Concepts' commercial services, such as adding additional audio modules or MATLAB API support.
Ideal for IoT and wearable devices, the STM32 microcontroller offers rich, efficient capabilities for user interface management, network connectivity, control, and sensor data integration. With more than 700 products, the STM32 product family offers users a variety of options in terms of processing performance, number of pins and functional integration. Pin compatibility, software compatibility, and peripherals between different products also make it easy for the system to flex. The ARM Cortex-M processor core architecture delivers advanced energy efficiency technologies. The unique ultra-low power technology of the STM32L4 series further saves power and maximizes the battery life of small battery-powered or self-powered devices.
Rich audio features enhance the STM32's strength as a benchmark microcontroller for iot applications, with peripheral interfaces including I2S and S/PDIF digital audio interfaces and DFSDM inputs. DFSDM simplifies digital MEMS microphone signal capture and is ideal for voice-activated applications. ST-Audio Weaver currently supports the STM32F4, STM32L4, and STM32F7 families of microcontrollers with built-in digital signal processing extended instruction sets, enabling high-performance audio processing monolithic solutions that would otherwise require a digital signal coprocessor.
