STMicroelectronics' new ultra-thin low-voltage drop regulator in a breakthrough non-convex chip level package

     STMicroelectronics introduces a very small LDBL20 200mA Low Voltage Drop (LDO) regulator. The new product is available in a 0.47mm x 0.47mm x 0.2mm chipscale package and is ideal for flexible product devices such as wearables, portable devices and multi-functional connected smart cards.

     The LDBL20's STSTAMP non-bump package breaks through the minimum I/O area and height limits of the traditional flip chip package welded bump diameter, resulting in an unprecedented level of compact package size. The LDBL20 is a new addition to ST's family of compact low-voltage drop regulators, which also includes a wide range of products in a 0.69mm x 0.69mm chipscale package from 2mm x 2mm DFN to 300mA output current.

     In addition to the size advantage, the LDBL20's performance is also excellent. The 200mA output current makes its performance comparable to that of larger products from other manufacturers. The output voltage ranges from 1.5V to 5.5V with a typical voltage drop of 200mV. The 100Hz and 100kHz supply voltage rejection ratios (PSRR) are 80dB and 50dB, respectively, which simplifies the design of broadband filtering circuits and provides a stable voltage rail for low-power circuits in battery-powered devices. No-load static current 20µA, full load static current 100µA, standby 0.3µA to help maximize energy efficiency in a variety of operating states.

     The series offers output voltages from 0.8V to 5.0V on demand in 50mV increments. The internal features of the LDBL20 are very rich, including logic control electronic shutdown, internal soft start, and support for active output voltage discharge if required. The LDBL20 evaluation board STEVAL-ISB034V1 is available at the same time as the new product, enabling the LDBL20 to be designed into a wide range of product devices, including fitness monitors, blood pressure monitors, glucose meters, hearing AIDS, wearable sensors, smart headphones, portable audio devices, smart outlets, smartwatches and smart cards.
