Silicon Motion announced that the SM2256 SATA 6Gb/s SSD controller now supports Micron 128Gb 16nm TLC NAND flash
Silicon Motion Technology Corporation announced that its SM2256 SATA (6Gb/s) client SSD controller now supports Micron's new 16nm 128Gb TLC NAND flash memory. Help achieve superior performance and unmatched reliability, resulting in the next generation of cost-effective TLC SSD products.
The SM2256 is the world's first SSD controller to support Micron 16nm TLC NAND and the best-performing, cost-optimized 4-channel SATA 6Gb/s client SSD controller on the market. The SM2256 device with Micron 128Gb 16nm TLC NAND provides up to 540 MB/s sequential read performance and 460MB/s sequential write performance, with random read and random write performance up to 90,000 IOPS and 80,000 IOPS, respectively. With Silicon Motion Technology's proprietary NANDXtend™ Code Error correction (ECC) technology, the SM2256 dramatically improves the durability and data retention capabilities of TLC NAND, providing TLC SSDS with three times more reliability than existing BCH ECC designs.
