TI introduces the latest Femtocell base station DSP TCI6489/85

     Texas Instruments announced the launch of a new family of digital signal processors (DSPS) that will help manufacturers and service providers of cellular and enterprise femtocells significantly reduce development time and accelerate time-to-market. TI's multi-core Femtocell base station portfolio includes a full range of complementary simulation solutions, Linux support, and software solutions from TI's third parties, Continuous Computing and mimoOn.

    In addition, these DSPS provide a complete digital solution for HSPA applications, enabling a fully programmable, low-cost solution that enables Oems to bring to market adaptable and reliable femtocell base station products. By using software reference designs from Continuous Computing and mimoOn, Oems can not only provide customers with the software needed for Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 wireless protocol processing, but also rapidly develop nanocell base station products. Better wireless connectivity for video streaming files, interactive games, music sharing, and other high-bandwidth multimedia tasks.

     TI's Femtocell base station product family includes the TMS320TCI6485 with two high-performance 850MHz C64x+DSP cores, providing 1.7 GHz overall performance for cell femtocell base station applications, and three 850MHz C64x DSPS TMS320TCI6489(2.55 GHz performance for enterprise or "super Femtocell" applications). These products are highly scalable and can fully meet the different requirements of the global community and enterprise market segments, including TI's TCI6485 can support up to eight users, and the TCI6489 can support up to 32 users.

     The entire product range is compatible not only with all major 2G/3G and 4G systems such as GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, WiMAX and LTE, but also with TI's other DSPS for the wireless infrastructure office market. As a result, customers' previous investments in Acer and PicobasTs can still be fully utilized. TI has a long history of working in wireless infrastructure and has developed reliable DSP solutions specifically for the femtocell base station market, giving Oems the confidence to develop new products that meet the needs of this emerging market.
