Texas Instruments Subminiature DLP display controllers help 4K UHD projectors deliver stunning images
Texas Instruments has introduced a new display controller for ultra-small, high-speed, low-power 4K Ultra high-definition (UHD) projectors. Texas Instruments' DLPC8445 display controller measures just 9mm x 9mm, the width of a pencil eraser, making it one of the smaller products in its class today, while delivering a diagonal display of 100 inches or more with ultra-low latency and vivid image quality. When combined with the DLP472TP-compatible Digital Micromirror device (DMD) and the DLPA3085 Power management Integrated Circuit (PMIC)/LED driver, Texas Instruments' new controller enables designers to recreate the display experience of high-end TV and gaming monitors in a compact projector.
Jeff Marsh, vice president and general manager of DLP Products at Texas Instruments, said: "Immersive visual entertainment experiences are no longer limited to movie enthusiasts and game enthusiasts, but are increasingly being incorporated into the lives of everyday consumers. In the past, they needed to use a large TV or monitor to get a clear display. Now, with a home projector or gaming projector, they can turn their walls into screens of any size and enjoy 4K UHD quality. "Our new controller is the latest example of how Texas Instruments DLP® technology helps engineers develop and enjoy visual stuns on the go."
As consumers increasingly seek immersive experiences with content such as movies, games and TV shows, home projectors and game projectors are becoming more popular. With the new DLPC8445 controller and DLP472TP DMD from Texas Instruments, designers can deliver projection devices with sub-millisecond display latency that not only matches, but even exceeds, the world's high-end gaming monitors, reducing player lag time.
Support for variable refresh rate (VRR) is an important feature of DLP chipsets, allowing designers to easily synchronize frame rates and eliminate latency, image tearing, and stalling, providing a better display for gamers. Advanced image correction features dynamically adjust surface defects, enabling consumers to enjoy superior gaming and viewing experiences. It is also the first DLP controller in this series designed for battery-powered projectors for laser lighting.
