Texas Instruments TLC6984 48x16 Matrix LED display driver

     Texas Instruments TLC6984 48x16 Matrix LED Display Driver is a highly integrated common cathode Matrix LED display driver with 48 constant current sources and 16 scanning FETs. TLC6983 drives 16 x 16 and 32 x 32 RGB LED pixels, three TLC6984 is capable of driving 48 x 48 RGB LED pixels, stacked four TLC6984 can drive 64 x 64 RGB LED pixels.

     To achieve low power consumption, the device uses a common cathode structure that supports independent power supplies for red, green, and blue leds. In addition, the TLC6984's operating power is significantly reduced through the ultra-low operating voltage range (VCC as low as 2.5V) and ultra-low operating current (ICC as low as 3.6mA). LED open/weak short/short circuit detection and clearance can also be performed during operation and this information can be reported to the accompanying digital processor.

     The Texas Instruments TLC6984 features a high-speed dual-along transmission interface that supports high device count Daisy chains and high refresh rates while minimizing electromagnetic interference (EMI). The device supports up to 25MHz SCLK (external) and 40MHz to 160MHz GCLK (internal typical values) with different GCLK multiplier modes and frequencies.

     At the same time, the device integrates enhanced circuits and intelligent algorithms to address the various display challenges in narrow pixel spacing (NPP) LED display applications and small/micro LED products. These challenges include first-scan line dimming, up-down ghosting, low-gray non-uniformity, coupling, and Caterpillar phenomena caused by open or short leds, making the TLC6984 ideal for such applications.
