Texas Instruments introduces the industry's first Fly-Buck enabled 65V synchronous buck converter
Texas Instruments has introduced the industry's first 65V synchronous buck converter, which provides isolated bias power up to 15W without the need for optical couplers. As part of TI's innovative Fly-Buck power supply portfolio, the LM5160A improves power density and addresses the higher power needs of industrial and automotive applications in a more efficient and reliable manner. These applications include: three-phase AC motor drives, programmable logic controllers (PLCS), smart meters, renewable energy or grid infrastructure, factory automation, Power over Ethernet (POE) IP cameras, and electric vehicles
The LM5160A converter features constant on-time control without loop compensation and supports a high step-down ratio with a fast transient response. Supporting a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 65V, this innovative converter can generate positive and negative biased power rails in a non-isolated design, or generate single or multiple isolated outputs while minimizing solution size. In addition, the converter simplifies the design effort compared to traditional flyback solutions.
Used in conjunction with TI's award-winning WEBENCH online design tool, the LM5160A accelerates time to market for high-power DC/DC designs.The new Fly-Buck converter is part of TI's proven DC/DC portfolio with its industry-leading, high-performance power conversion features. TI also offers several devices with a Fly-Buck architecture, including the LM5017 converter, which supports input voltages up to 100V.
