The industry's smallest 55A power relay releases switching capacity

     Omron Electronic Components Europe has introduced a new high-power PCB relay that requires 51% less installation space than a comparable 480VAC 55A relay. It weighs only 18 grams and requires 488mm2. The G6QG relay can save a lot of space while providing high voltage and high current durability. The relay is ideal for high voltage energy infrastructure applications such as EV chargers and PV inverters.

     The relay's profile is 33% lower and 50% lighter than competing products available on the market. For designers of energy infrastructure devices, this can make boards and devices smaller and lighter, or make room for additional capacity or functionality. Applications include solar power generation systems, solar and energy storage inverters, electric vehicle charging stations, industrial inverters, home appliances and other industrial equipment.

     Despite its small size and low height, the device can have high-capacity switches with contacts rated at 480VAC, 55A. The large contact gap of a minimum of 2mm means that the device complies with the solar power standard IEC62109, while also providing improved insulation between the contacts. The device has a high voltage capacity of 10kV between the coil and the contact. Its coil holding voltage can be applied to 35%-50% of the rated coil voltage, reducing the coil power consumption to about 12% of the rated voltage. The total power consumption is 1400mW, which also saves 172mW when the coil holds the voltage at 35%.
