Transformer drivers that can improve efficiency and performance in industrial and automotive applications

     Nexperia introduced the NXF6501-Q100, NXF6505A-Q100, and NXF6505B-Q100. These are AEC-Q100 certified push-pull transformer drivers that can be designed for small, low noise and low emi isolated power supplies for a range of automotive applications, such as traction inverters and motor controls, DC-DC converters, battery management systems and on-board chargers.

     These devices are available in compact, industry-standard packages such as the five-pin SOT8098 (TSOT5) and six-pin SOT8061 (TSOT6) packages that operate safely over ambient temperatures ranging from -55 ° C to 125 ° C. It is suitable for industrial applications such as telecommunications, medical applications, instrumentation and industrial automation equipment, solar inverters, energy meters and PLCS.

     The series can drive low-profile, center-tapped transformers from 2.25V to 5.5V power supplies with high output current (1.2A at 5V) and high efficiency (up to 90%). To facilitate small size design, these devices feature 440kHz (NXF6501 and NXF6505B) or 160kHz (NXF6505A) internal oscillators and gate drive circuits that provide complementary output signals to drive an internal reference N-channel power switch. In addition, the NXF6505A and NXF6505B can also be externally connected with clock signals for precise control of switching harmonics or synchronizing multiple NFX6505x(a /B) -Q100 devices. In addition, the series uses conversion rate control and spread spectrum clock (SSC) to provide ultra-low noise and EMI.

     The series also integrates comprehensive internal protection features such as overcurrent protection with burp mode (1.7A), undervoltage lock, thermal shutdown and disconnect front circuit to ensure safe operation. These transformer drivers also have a soft start (~5ms) function that prevents high inrush current when large load capacitors are powered on. Finally, these devices have fail-safe inputs that prevent reverse power supply from the local power supply and eliminate the need for power sequence management.
