Xilinx announces the launch of the Spartan-7 FPGA family

     Xilinx Corporation announced the Spartan-7 FPGA family, a flexible I/O intensive device for cost-sensitive applications. This new family of devices addresses the connectivity needs of many different market segments such as automotive, consumer electronics, industrial Internet of Things, data centers, wired/wireless communications, and portable medical solutions. The new Spartan-7 FPGA will be supported by the WebPACK™ version of the free Vivado design suite, as well as Vivado design and system versions for rapid integration and implementation.

     The Spartan-7 FPGA family has a high percentage of I/O in a small package, which is critical for cost-sensitive markets. The cost-performance per unit power consumption of the series is up to four times higher than that of the previous generation, providing flexible connectivity, interface bridging and auxiliary chip functions.

     Kirk Saban, senior director of FPGA and SoC product management and marketing at Xilinx, said: "Xilinx has long provided low-cost optimization solutions through the Spartan family of products, and the introduction of the SPARTAN-7 FPGA family reaffirms our commitment to this traditional market, while further extending our leadership in I/O density, miniaturized packaging and energy efficiency for generations."

     This latest family of devices will be co-optimized with the industry-leading Vivado design suite to provide an IP - and system-centric development environment to meet the demands of shorter development cycles and stringent time-to-market pressures common in a variety of cost-sensitive markets. The introduction of the Spartan-7 FPGA family will further strengthen the existing Xilinx 7 family of products using TSMC's 28nm HPL process
